I’ve been through so many ups and downs when it comes to style. Some weeks I’m all about simplicity and minimalism, others I layer on all the jewelry and makeup. But through all the variations of my everyday outfits, I have discovered 3 simple ways to upgrade my style that has helped me to feel put-together even on lazy, stay-at-home weekends.
Your eyes, specifically. Don’t get me wrong: I am not advocating for applying a full face of makeup each and every single day! Goodness knows that is not doable for me at all. Instead, focus on the highlight of your face, the “windows to your soul”: your eyes. I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but it’s the truth: highlight your eyes, and the rest of your face comes to life! Taking 1 extra minute to apply mascara can do wonders for helping you look (and feel) put together.
I’ve tried different variations of just mascara, or mascara and brow powder, and both are good for different days & circumstances. If I’m just working from home, I’ll do whatever I feel like. If I’m going out shopping, odds are I’ll apply brow powder. If I’m headed out to work, Church, or an event I will wear a full face of makeup to compliment my more put-together appearance. Of course, there are going to be the odd days where makeup is just out of the question. I’m with you, I’ve been there. But also know that if you want to amplify your more laid-back style, a little mascara and brow powder goes a long way. 😉
You know how I feel about hair at this point, but I’m going to reiterate it again. Finding a streamlined hairstyle that flatters your natural hair pattern is so key for polishing up your day-to-day outfits. As I have observed myself and those around me, I have really come to realize just how amazingly a well-done hairdo can amplify any outfit. Even on “bad hair days”, it’s not half as bad when the cut & style is one that is tailored specifically to you & your personal style. It’s doable, even on bad days. (Trust me, I know!)

Jewelry & Accessories
There were a couple years where I never wore a pair of earrings, let alone a necklace or bracelet. Want to hear a secret? I almost n.e.v.e.r wore bracelets up until just recently. I always assumed that they were impractical and that my wrists were too small. Well, it turns out I was trying the wrong type of bracelet. 😉
Ever since taking this clothing course, my outlook on accessories has changed dramatically. In that course, they have a video where the stylist is putting together an outfit. Her clothes are flattering and well chosen, but there is still something a little lack-luster about her appearance. Enter jewelry (and hair & makeup, as discussed above), and BAM! She absolutely comes to life! That video set me back on my heels, and I really started to reevaluate my accessories style. I began to branch outside of basic dangly earrings and toyed with necklaces, chokers, bracelets (the kind that fit 😉 ), and even second piercings. I couldn’t believe the whole world I had been missing out on!
Make it Fun!
With all 3 tips, you never know unless you try. Try observing and implementing these little, sometimes less noticeable details (jewelry, hair, and makeup) in your day-to-day outfits, and you will definitely start to see your style take a turn for the better. Fashion is fun when you allow yourself to experiment! There are so many more ways to express yours outside of just the clothes.
