Hey girls! Charlotte here today to share with you a fun, transitional outfit, as we are all anticipating the cooler weather of Fall. About a month ago when I first started to see posts on social media about everyone getting excited for Fall to return, all I could think was “Nooo! I’m just now getting my Summer wardrobe in place; don’t change on me now!!” But I’ve finally adjusted to the new season ahead, and am eagerly awaiting the day that I can finally pull out the cool weather outfits I have begun to plan in my head 🙂
You know those colors, patterns and textures that you always get drawn to, no matter how much you try to be open to something different and new? That is cognac leather and dark wash denim for me. Time and again, when I purchase a pair of shoes or a purse in a neutral color, I can’t keep my eye off of the cognac color, and I always cave in. Black and brown just don’t get me as excited as this warm, practical tan. It’s the same with my denim choices. I see the light and medium washes, but I can’t help but always purchase the darkest, deepest blue. Even reflecting back on my childhood jeans, my favorites were always the ones that were dark and daring.
It’s funny to me the way that clothing can just speak to you sometimes. Whether we are shopping at Goodwill, or I am browsing Pinterest, it feels like my instincts are always guiding me when I make a sartorial choice. When in doubt, follow your gut, I always say 😉 This method is leading me to curate a closet that I continue to get excited about over and over. Instead of trying to fit myself in a custom-made “style” cookie cutter with a list of do’s and don’ts, I am opening myself up to experimenting more, discovering new ways to wear things, all based upon what I know will bring me joy and get me excited to wear what I have in my closet. It may sound a bit loosey-goosey, touchy-feely to some; but when you come down to it, personal style is the expression of your heart and soul put into clothing. Why shouldn’t your heart and soul be helping determine what you wear?
This outfit is certainly straying from what I would usually define as “old-fashioned” or “vintage”. It’s interesting how much I have been gravitating towards more modern styles lately. I haven’t owned a denim circle skirt for many years, but here I am proudly sporting one that I made a few weeks ago. It is of a very modern cut, and actually reminds me a lot of something that a sweet blogger friend, Olivia, would wear. Pairing this skirt with a low-tied button down, and my new go-to shoe & purse duet, and you have a very modern outfit that is 100% non-fussy, while still being 100% fun and feminine!
I am going to give you gals a heads up here: I know that many of you absolutely adore vintage styles as we girls do, and while I still appreciate the fashions of days gone by and admire the feminine cuts and styles, I am branching out a bit more. I think that it is a healthy thing for every fashion-minded gal to experiment and really try hard to establish her fashion-sense through exposing herself to different styles and sartorial points of view. And that is exactly what I plan to do this Fall and Winter. There have been so many outfit ideas pinging around in my head for years that I haven’t had the guts to actually try because of what people may think of me, or how “inconsistent” they would be with vintage fashion, etc. But ain’t nobody got time for that. You only live once, am I right? I am excited to branch out, and use my knowledge of bygone clothing to infuse and inspire my maturing fashion sense, and really discover what I love and who I want to express myself to be through my clothing choices.
So here’s to having fun and wearing what we love!
Have you ever feared trying something new with your clothing, because of what others might think?
