Hello there! Isn’t life good when you have a cup of tea, hot or iced, in your hands? You may not know this about me, but I LOVE tea. I drink a cup, or two, or three, every day, my favorite being a rich cup of matcha green tea! This love began during my teen years. Tea became a wonderful companion that kept me happy while I worked on school subjects, while on the computer, reading my favorite books, or working on my artwork. Enjoying tea has been a huge part of my young adult life, as I’m sure it is for a lot of you, too.
As I grew to love tea, so did my appreciation for loose leaf tea. But, what is loose leaf? It’s exactly what it sounds like. The leaves are “loose” instead of being confined to tea bags. Many bagged teas merely contain tea “dust” and “fannings” instead of the whole or nearly whole leaf. Chopping and breaking the leaves for bagging can release the oils from the tea and diminish the flavor profile. Thus they have to add flavorings, sweeteners, and other additives to make your tea taste good. Not the best, but “good”. Loose leaf tea contains all the naturally occurring oils, giving it that wonderful, rich taste, without the help of additives. This is why many people prefer it over bagged tea. Loose leaf is better than the best bagged tea in the world any day, and there are only so many companies who do a good job at making it, and after trying them out, I’d have to say that Steeped Tea is tops.
Steeped Tea is a family owned, Canadian based company that strives to provide great tasting and high quality loose leaf tea (including many organic selections), tea accessories, and basically anything that you might want to make your tea experience the best you’ve ever had. Steeped Tea is sold through a network of Independent Consultants in Canada and more recently the United States as well.
This wonderful company was introduced to me by an old acquaintance of mine, a wonderful gal named Sarah Peterson, who (just like me) LOVES tea. She loves it so much, that she decided to join Steeped Tea, and become a tea consultant. Not too long ago, she contacted me to do a review and giveaway (that’s right! you get something too!), and she sent me this nifty gadget called a “Bubble Cup”, and a whole bagful of tea samples to try out! *sigh* I was in heaven as soon as I opened up my package of goodies. 😉
So let me tell you a little bit about my bubble cup. First off, it’s made entirely of glass, and is double walled so you can pick up your cup of tea without burning your hands, or grappling a handle. Then it has the tea diffuser chamber made of stainless steel, outfitted with a silicone lip, a handy feature which allows you to insert or remove your diffuser without the steel ever harming the glass. And lastly, you have a wonderful glass lid, independent of the cup itself, which rests over top the silicone lip of the diffuser. Overall it is a pretty seamless design, probably one of the best I’ve ever used to make and drink my tea! But what I love most about it, is that when you make a cup of hot tea in it, the outer wall of the bubble cup actually gets warm, so in the winter time when it’s cold, I am so looking forward to wrapping my cold hands around my cup! It is a lot better than waiting around for your tea to cool down, burning your hands on a thin walled cup, or having cold hands because the warmth just doesn’t come through the thicker wall of a mug. If you decide to get hooked on Steep Tea, take my advice and get yourself a bubble cup first! It is awesome!
Hot, or iced, you can go either way with your bubble cup. I found that the best way to make a quick cup of iced tea is to fill my bubble cup only halfway with hot water, allow the tea to steep twice as long as it should for a hot cup, and then fill it the rest of the way with ice. For this review I used a super yummy green tea called, “Jazzy Jasmine”. My mom used to get loose leaf jasmine tea when I was younger, so this one brought back a lot of memories of sniffing mom’s cup of delicate, aromatic jasmine tea, and hoping I would be allowed a sip or two. This jasmine tea did not disappoint one bit! It had the full flavor of a green tea, but with subtle, delicate notes produced by the jasmine flowers.
Sarah was super sweet and sent me a few samples from Steeped Tea’s collections: Green, Black, White, Red, Herbal, and Berry. I think the best thing that happened to me in this review came with the trial of the berry teas. I am not a fresh’n fruity tea loving person, but I think that’s because I have been drinking fruity teas from all the wrong tea brands! Steeped Tea came through for me with their fruity teas! They don’t have that awful potpourri flavor, mixed with that offensive sourness so common to most fruity teas. Nope! They each have a flavor profile and aroma of fruit and berries unique to each tea combination, topped with a slight nutty sweetness that sent me over the moon. I am now a fruit tea convert. Never thought I’d see the day. 🙂
Okay! So now it’s time to tell you all about the Giveaway we’re doing with Steeped Tea!
