Hello dears! Have you looked out your window lately, or taken a walk through your neighborhood? If you have done either of these, you will have noticed a new and glorious change in the scenery around you. The birds are singing their springtime melodies, the daffodils have shouldered their little elegant bodies through the topsoil into bright warm sunshine, and the dormant earth has suddenly stretched, and yawned warm air and life into a beautiful new landscape. I don’t care what day Spring “officially” begins, because it has already sprung in Southern Ohio, and I am one happy girl!
But, goodness me! With the advent of this new warm season means the reassessment of my wardrobe! Ugh… Ok, so being a fashion/lifestyle blogger doesn’t mean I enjoy this kind of work all the time, especially when you know you’re going to have to wrap your already preoccupied mind around figuring out what you’re going to have to make up on your sewing machine for the coming season. And for those very reasons it is such a blessing to have an online modest clothing resource like Skylark Clothing to turn to!
Skylark Clothing is a charming clothing company, run by two sisters who reside in Canada, that currently retails the very stylish Mikarose dresses. These two Canadian sisters are passionate about dressing stylishly as well as modestly, but because most of the tasteful modest clothing is sold in the US, the sisters decided that it was time to create a resource for all of their Canadian (and US) compadres who dress intentionally, with a budget in mind. Thus, Skylark Clothing was born.
What a joy and relief it was to me when these sweet ladies contacted me to review one of their dresses! I not only was happy to spread the wonderful news to all of you about their business, but I was also overjoyed at the thought of having one of the beautifully designed, classy, vintage inspired dresses to add my wardrobe for Spring! There was one item checked off my to-do list! Without much hesitation, I got online, and soon picked out the charming Ella Dress in green.
Dress: Skylark Clothing // Shoes: Thrifted // Necklace: Vintage // Earrings: Forever 21 // Bolero: Thrifted
One of the first things I looked for at Skylark Clothing was a vintage-y silhouette in the dress, and then I looked at what material the dress was made out of. Having learned so much about natural fibers recently, and how good they feel on one’s skin, the girls and I have been on a mission to purge our wardrobes of all synthetic fibers. Man-made fibers like viscose, rayon, and others like those are perfectly fine, because they are made from cellulose fibers, and are therefore second best to all natural fibers. I was so happy to find that Skylark sold several lovely dresses made from either viscose or rayon. The one that I knew would serve me best was the elegant green Ella Dress. I immediately fell in love with the petal detailed sleeves, retro floral print, easy slip-over-the-head design with an elastic waist… all of this got me excited. The dress would not only work as a pretty Church/special occasion dress, but it could also be worn as a breezy, everyday dress!
Now I know it is risky buying anything online, especially if you can’t feel the textures or the weight of the fabric making up the garment in question. And then there’s the issue of not being able to try it on…. Good news though! You can overcome these obstacles! Just be extremely picky, and stick with what you KNOW you will love and appreciate wearing for the rest of that garment’s days. The likelihood of success is pretty close to 100% if you stick to your guns. To make your shopping experience easy the two sisters behind Skylark have provided very accurate descriptions for all their dresses, and even tell you when a dress runs a bit big or small. Chat boxes or a contact page are of course one of the best options you could possibly have when shopping online so you find out exactly how the garment is going to fit you. It’s super easy to get in touch with the sisters behind Skylark, and they are truly a blessing to work with. You’ll love your shopping experience with them on their site!
As a last side note, when shopping online one thing to think about is what colors look best on you, and what you already have in your wardrobe. Ask yourself: “Do I already have plenty of garments in this color?”, “Will this color compliment my natural coloring, or make me look washed out?”, and the all important one, “Does anything else in my wardrobe go with this garment in question?”. This Ella Dress in particular comes in both green and red. I don’t have a lot of red in my closet, and for good reason. Green is my favorite color, but even still some greens just don’t look good on me. However, the green option for the Ella Dress was the perfect leafy green I treasure most, plus I knew for certain it would go with my favorite green bolero sweater (also seen here, and here) and all the other sweaters in my closet as well as several pairs of shoes. So green it was for me, and I am so delighted with my decision!
A huge thank you goes out to the two sisters who made this review possible for Skylark Clothing! I love the green Ella dress oh so much! In fact, I can safely say it is my new favorite warm-weather dress. Simply sublime. So, if you’re in the market for investing in a new dress, do these two ladies a favor and hop on over to Skylark clothing today! I hope you are as impressed as I was.
