Happy Tuesday everyone! You may or may not know this, but one of us just celebrated her Birthday this past Saturday. *grin* Yep! That girl is me! And what did I do to celebrate it? Why a big shopping spree to IKEA of course!
The morning was a snoozer. That may not come as a surprise since it was a Saturday, but this gal is a go-against-the-grain type of person–I don’t sleep in. I get up and find stuff to do while everyone sleeps the morning away. Not so on my Birthday! I can’t say I was all that happy about the decision afterward–you could say I got up on the wrong side of the bed–because I had planned to get up normal time to get a few things done. But you know how it can be, especially on your Birthday, you want to sleep.
After breakfast, I got ready for the day, and by the time I was done, there was hardly enough time to do anything before we headed out shopping. That, my friends, was what I had been waiting for nearly all week long–IKEA!
This is a picture of Charlotte and I standing in front of a “honey-comb” mirror, after we made the brilliant decision of not using the overcrowded, line-too-long ladies’ room on the main floor (Didn’t they know there was another one upstairs by the restaurant?).
IKEA is all about clean lines, and clutter-free spaces. Ahhh. It doesn’t get any better than that. The furnishings are some of the most chic and economical around, thus making it #1 on our list of stores to hit when we girls have homes of our own to decorate. Charlotte took the opportunity to make a lovely mustard yellow chair into blog art. Brilliant.
Did I tell you that IKEA is a Swedish home furnishings company? Well it is, which is why the girls and I wore the outfits we did–simple clean-lined frocks (or skirts), braided hair for me, combined with our adorable Swedish Hasbeens *cough* Charlotte tried. She has yet to get a pair, but she improvised with her peppy platforms and she still turned some heads. 🙂
Caaaanndyyy!!! The eats are good at IKEA. And you really can’t beat gluten, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and color free candy! I am not the “candy lover” in the family, Charlotte and Mom hold the title, but I must say, as soon as Charlotte skipped over to me with a bagful of the stuff after I was through purchasing my goods, I nearly fell over. It was too good to be true, and the taste was even better!
The selection of lamps and shades found at this remarkable store are–putting it simply–to die for! Charlotte captured just one of those luminous fixtures in a rather up close perspective. She had fun with the iPhone. 😉
Um… The ceiling? Really Charlotte? Okee dokee.
And what is IKEA without a dish of Swedish meatballs, lingonberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy? If you’re me, you add a side of salad. Oh, and don’t forget the lingonberry juice! Perfect! When you go to IKEA, you indulge in everything. So after indulging our imaginations with the incredible display rooms, we indulged our appetites. *sigh* Birthdays are so wonderful…
When we came to the end of our adventure in the great big warehouse of stylish home goods, I had a good load of treasure to work with at the cash register. Let me see…
- 1 botanical duvet cover & pillowcase
- 1 decorative botanical pillowcase
- 1 beige sheet and mattress cover
- 1 yard of plaid upholstery fabric (yes, they have designer fabrics there too, with a DIY cutting counter!)
- 1 Note pad, stickies, and other office supplies
So as you can see, I am in the process of redecorating my room. Yay! I did this for a birthday I had quite a few years ago, and you could say that my bedding from that time had seen its better days. So for this particular birthday, I bought myself a new room, practically speaking. 🙂 The old theme was primary yellow, red and green. The new one is pastel yellow, pink and white botanicals, with beige accents. But the note pads? I guess I have a weakness for paper anything, because when we came to the paper goods part of the store, I couldn’t resist the cheap prices and picked up a few cute office accessories. Hey, if there is one thing I have come to realize about blogging, its that stickies become your best friends!
For the finale, we consumed Brigi’s hard work from the day before–Basil Chocolate Cheesecake. I love anything with an unique flavor combination, so as soon as this cake came on Brigi’s blog radar, I knew that was going to be my birthday cake. We just finished it off last night, and Mm! It was the best Cheesecake! It had an almost savory quality of flavor to it, due to the basil (kind of like basil and ricotta in lasagna), but there is enough sugar to remind you it is desert, not dinner. Thank you my favorite baker in the world! Brigi, you’re the best! And thank you, Charlotte dear, for taking all the pictures! You make everything look so special.
How are you going to celebrate your Birthday this year?
Have you been to IKEA, or heard of it before?
Love and many blessings to you, my dears!
Jessica, the eldest sister & singer
P.S. Thank you for continuing to pray for our family, we think we can see a light at the end of our tunnel, but please continue to lift us up, as we’re not out of this yet. And let me just say, you’re all so wonderful, and so, so kind. <3
