Hello again! Wow! two posts in one week! It has been such a long while since that has happened for me! But more to the point… In this COS, I was feeling rather like a girl from the Netherlands–white and blue colors, simple elegant frock, and my new favorite Swedish Hasbeens. You could say I was delft-ly styled. *grin*
Dress: 1958 Party Dress // Shoes: Swedish Hasbeens // Earrings: ForeverXXI // Hair Accessories: Lilla Rose Bobby Pins
Like I said above, I haven’t been able to post twice a week every other week like I used to, but this week was an exception–my work at the greenhouse ended, and I am free at last to do, well, everything! And wouldn’t you believe it? I have racked up a pretty lengthy to-do list, so I am antsy to get to work!
What are my plans? Well, if all goes well, and I stick to my list, I am going to be working on three sewing projects (besides other things). The first two are identical 1930’s dresses. They will differ in fabric patterns, one is dusty blue with rusty orange polka dots; while the other is a cream-white, blue, yellow and tan plaid, with a blue contrasting collar. As I said in this post, I have discovered 30’s dresses are quite flattering on me, and so I am dressing accordingly. Oh! I am so ready to get on the sewing machine and get those dresses done! (Note: Lily, of Mode de Lis, has given me quite a bit of inspiration regarding these two frocks, so with her in mind, I am going to attempt to do them justice.)
The other sewing project will be a simple quilting of green fabric squares to be made into a bolster pillow cover (For those of you who have no idea what a bolster pillow is, they are those long, “tube-like” pillows that you see either at the head or foot of a bed). I plan to “rag” the edges of the squares and leave them as the outside of the cover to add texture. It will be lovely with my new, fresh botanical theme in my bedroom! Pictures of my room? Maybe…
This is going to be a very unique Summer for the girls and I. Already so many things have happened, both wonderful and exciting. But as you know, there have also been some very sad, upsetting, and disheartening trials along the way. We have been in need of your prayers for a couple of those things lately. I just want to say how comforted we are to know that you all are praying for us! God bless you all!
Prayer is such a powerful thing, and I know that I will be relying on it more than I ever have this Summer than in any other season of my life. I have been encouraged even more to pray since I have been reading through the Books of “The Writings” (Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther) in my Bible recently, taking much comfort and learning from the Prophets of that time. During this period of the Bible times, the leaders of the Children of Israel sought to reform their people to wholeheartedly follow the Lord. Through prayer and much fasting they did this, and the Lord heard, and answered them. He does not always answer at once, but when He does, it is His glory alone that we see.
Sometimes we can think that the Lord does not hear us, but wouldn’t it make more sense to say that we’re too impatient? He is the Omnipotent, and all powerful One. Does it not seem right then to continue in silent obedience; praying earnestly, with patience, letting the work of the Lord come to pass. We are confined by time, but for our God, there is no limit, time or otherwise, and He moves according to His goodness and pleasure. He loves us, but He wants us to obey Him too, without yelling and kicking for our will to be done.
This is a meditation that the Holy Spirit has filled my soul with lately, and I just thought I would share it with you ladies. We are all on different journeys, true, but sometimes, our paths cross over at the right time, and we can take joy in each other’s comforting words. I pray that this may be a post in which some of you may find just that.
Let there be peace in my heart then, to follow willingly, accepting as a child the will of the Father. Amen
What is on your to-do list?
What will you be doing this Summer?
Blessings to you all, my dears!

Beautiful outfit- and I really love that hairstyle on you! 🙂
I’m eagerly looking forward to your 1930s creations- I’m sure they’ll be smashing! 😀
Thank you Lily! I was so hoping you would come out of the woodworks with this post! Haha! (Just know I love getting comments from you!)
Yep, I can’t wait to get going again! Mom was helping me out right after we came home with the fabric, but work got a little hectic, and so I had to put it aside. I hope to get them done within the next couple of weeks, but we’ll see.
Cheers, my dear!

I love this sweet dress from my pattern! Blue and white dresses have long been a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing!
Hello Mrs. Chancey! Thank you so much for leaving me such a kind, complementary comment! You must know that anytime you do so on any of our outfit posts, the girls and I make sure that the whole house knows that you were so kind to leave a sweet note for us! So thank you for making my day! 🙂
Happily,

You look absolutely gorgeous, as always 😉

I have lived in the Netherlands all my life (still do), and i wish people would dress as you do in this post. Sometimes feminin/modest outfits are hard to find… But i am not complaining, i love living here, and at least the (absolutely horrible) trend of wearing neon colored tight fitting clothes has past 😉
This summer i will still be working on my health, my back still needs work, and i will try to teach myself how to make more use if all the hours in a day ( since i have been home for a long time, and do not need to go anywhere, i have trouble getting out of bed on time and doing chores… I wish to remedy that). I also want to sew myself a new maxi skirt, and crochet a new bolero type cover up :). The last thing is that i found a great readingplan online and will be reading the new testament over the course of the summer (the whole testament).
Well! That is such a shame that people in those Countries don’t dress more traditionally, that’s where I got the inspiration from is the historical folk dress. And like you, we’re very glad to see the neon trend going away here too! Yuck!
Good for you! I have been keeping you in my prayers, and will continue to do so. I am so glad to hear that you will be trying to improve your day to day routines! This can be a very hard task when you first start out, but if you stick to the routine, you will inevitably make some very good habits. I am still learning this, and thankfully, Mom is always there to keep me on track. Good old Mom! <3
I praise the Lord for leading you to do this NT reading challenge! I have been on a Bible reading challenge for the past two years with some friends from across the country, reading a chapter a day (sometimes more if I have to catch up) and it has been one of the best things I have ever done to improve my relationship with the Lord. He has taught me so many things, and brought me hope and encouragement in so many of the passages. May you find this too, and I pray that the Lord will bless your strivings. 🙂

Traditional clothing, known here as ‘klederdracht’, is slowly dying out. There are a few places where they still wear it, think Volendam and Spakenburg for example, but it is only worn by the oldest generation of women. Other then that people do wear it on hollidays for example. It is a shame that it is this way, but on the other hand… Klederdracht is very (seriously, VERY) time consuming, very expensive and takes a lot of patience (no buttons, zippers or hooks/eyes allowed, everything is pinned on using long and very sharp pins. It takes a long time to learn properly; i know, i had to learn when i still worked as a nurse). What i do feel sad about is that with the older generation, as they come to the end of their lives, so comes a end to all the knowledge :-(. Where i used to live there where only 2 (!) women left who knew how to iron and fold the traditional hats.
But for your outfit:Delfst blue will never dissapear ;-). A lot of dutch traditions won’t, just the clothing for everyday life… And thank you so much for kering me in your prayers, i really appreciate it! 🙂
I absolutely love this whole look on you! You look so extremely beautiful! What wise words, too!
Thanks, Sam!
Love and hugs!

This dress is so lovely, fresh and summery; you look lovely in it. I will be praying for you, your sisters and your family. I always find your blog so encouraging. It can be so hard when prayers are not answered how we want, but I pray you will keep clinging to God in this time. Much love xxx
Ps- really looking forward to seeing the 1930’s dresses!
Oh Kaitlyn, you have our hearts’ appreciation. Thank you, dear. 🙂

Jessica, you MUST post pictures of your redesigned room! I adore room tours =)
This is such a beautiful outfit! And your hasbeens are gorgeous 🙂 I look forward to seeing your projects! The 30’s dresses sound absolutely lovely. My to-do list this summer consists of making a couple of dresses/ skirts, possibly some pants, and shopping/packing for college.
Tremendously lovely outfit and photos – the B&W white close up portrait in particular is a thing of great beauty.
