Hello, hello! I am so excited to share with you my first ever knitting creation! I had an itch to learn to knit at the beginning of the year, and decided to give it a go. After Brigid taught me the basics, I knitted up a swatch scarf (basically where I tried out a whole slew of stitch types and mastered my tension). Being an “all or nothing” type of gal, I decided that my first real project was going to be a sweater. A cardigan, to be exact.
I ordered a gorgeous shade of heather purple yarn from Craftsy, and began to follow along their “My First Sweater” class, which Brigid took when she made her first sweater. Ha! “Watching” that course turned out to be a bit of a joke for me, since I pretty much just watched the first 15 minutes of the first video… and left following the course and went head-long into reading the pattern/asking Brigid for advice the rest of the time. 😉
Pattern: “My First Sweater” via Craftsy // Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease in Heather // Buttons: Joann Fabrics
The sweater was buckets of fun to make! The pattern was super simple and easy to follow (with Brigid’s occasional guidance of course… “Um…BRIGID!!” Too many times did Brigid have to undo/force me to undo my stitches as I bawled my head off… ahem.), and I am so happy with the result! Although there are a few mistakes here and there, and I would make a few tweaks next time with the pattern, I am overall very satisfied with my first knitting project 🙂 I found the most adorable tan-colored buttons at Joann Fabrics & Crafts while we were out shopping one day, and knew that they would be the perfect fasteners for my cardigan. They were the exact color of tan that I like best, and that so many of my leather accessories are made of, so it was pretty much a no-brainer 🙂
It’s amazing how attached you can become to a craft… I was on a complete knitting fix when I was working on my sweater, so that I had a hard time putting it down! Alas, when I finished this lovely, my knitting needles laid vacant in my knitting bag, and my fingers were already itching for the next project. Which lead me on to making the pretty moss-stitch turban you see me wearing! I have always loved the simple, retro look of a knitted turban, and so when I had left over yarn from my sweater, I decided to try my hand at a moss stitch and make myself one. All I did was basically knit a wide rectangle and sew the open edges together, and then gathered the sewn edge. Nice ‘n easy, and it was quite handy for the Winter, keeping my ears warm on chilly sledding adventures. 🙂
I found that a lovely way to dress up my pretty turban was to slide in a couple of our ornate Lilla Rose bobbies. They made for the perfect addition to bring this already adorable accessory to the next level. You can buy your own here!
