Oh my golly! Can that really be the time? This is the one thought I woke up with buzzing through my head earlier this morning. I have the wonderful pleasure of announcing that today is the day in which we reveal the top four winners of our Holiday How We Wear Vintage Contest! For this Holiday themed contest, we had 44 entries, which tops the last HWWV contest by 2! We couldn’t be more pleased with the great sense of Christmas spirit each young lady put into her board, and we would like to thank you all for participating! Ok, ok, I can feel the butterflies mounting up right now now, so I’ll stop jabbering and get on with our very important business. Oh Goody! 🙂
3rd Place Winner
Now let me share with you all why we chose Emma’s board:
Originality: This ensemble is quite original in the simplistic choices of color, shapes and textures. The sixties were almost severe in how simple the lines of dresses were, leaving out a great deal of fluff and “extras” that we see in the previous eras.
Practicality: Anyone can see that this lovely tweed shift, crisp blouse, and low healed pumps would be any girl’s choice to wear to a family’s Holiday gathering or friend’s Christmas Party. Not too simple, but not too much either. Just right.
Authenticity: We saw a few sixties inspired boards this time around, but somehow this one was perfect to a T. The blouse, dress, and shoes are perfectly matched to the sixties style, and Emma couldn’t have made a better choice than to have put in the right makeup and hairstyle. Excellent!
Holiday: With the theme of Holiday, there can’t be too many color combinations. So when we saw this board, and noted the fact that the red was not the sole center of attention, nor was the gold bling from the pin, we just had to give it the honors for the bold grey dress. All in all, we could just see a sixties actress like Mary Tyler Moore wearing this ensemble to a Holiday party. Perfection!
2nd Place Winner
Congratulations, Lilly of Biblical Femininity! Your board entry has won you a $35 credit to Two Old Beans Etsy Shop! We know you will have a great time looking through their lovely selection of vintage attire! Kudos to you!
This is why we dubbed this board the 2nd prize winner:
Originality: First off we could clearly see that this outfit was meant to be worn around the Holidays in the 50’s era, what with the pleated skirt, and the lovely spruce green cardigan.
Practicality: Need I say how practical this ensemble is? You can’t beat a full skirt, nor a pair of saddle backs, but with the help of the pin and purse we can still see a lovely touch of sparkle.
Authenticity: The simple cut of the blouse, the fullness of skirt, and the playful yet sophisticated accessories screams 50’s, thus adding on some well earned points for Lilly! Great job!
Holiday: Again, we saw so many reds, and golds with this contest, so that when we came upon this board, it was like a breath of fresh minty air! The darling little Angel pin, the lush green of the cardigan, and of course the blacks & whites of the outfit really speak volumes that this winner didn’t want to go the original route of Holiday colors. Very unique in choice.
1st Place Winner
We chose Allyson’s board for these reasons:
Originality: Even without the help of the snapshots from “It’s a Wonderful Life” we could easily tell that this was a 40’s ensemble, and that this young lady has been learning a great deal about this era.
Practicality: This dress would be considered practical indeed, as it would continue to go with many other accessories besides Christmas themed pieces, such as the fur hat and darling clutch.
Authenticity: Right away we could see that this dress was from the 40’s era, but not only was the dress, but everything else besides, and thus Allyson won some great points for staying true to this era’s styles.
Holiday: The lovely green dress is styled beautifully with the warm grey of the coat and hat, almost making it look like a lovely Christmas tree decked out with fake snow. Truly elegant.
Grand Prize Winner
Let me tell you why we chose Rachel’s board for Grand Prize Winner:
Originality: Without a doubt Rachel has earned her badges! It really looks like she didn’t waste any time in putting together this board, and had a very clear vision as to what she wanted. Your execution was superb, my dear!
Practicality: Slacks, a darling sweater, and some cozy little booties perfectly spells out practical; not to mention it looks like Rachel was ready for some snow-play, what with her woolen hat and fair isle mittens. Yet, with this laid back look, a girl could easily wear this to a family gathering and still be the spitting image of Christmas.
Authenticity: This is an outfit that only a true 1940’s fanatic could have dreamed up! I don’t know about you, but with all of the boards we saw, this one earned the highest point for Authenticity to the era. Rachel included all the essentials, and she did it with class!
Holiday: Lastly, with this outfit we didn’t see too much of any one Holiday color, but instead we saw each one combined into a beautiful collage of Yuletide hues. Truly this board makes you want to be merry and bright, does it not? Well done, Rachel!
Ladies far and near, I give you our Contest winners! Though not all of you could win, we want you all to know that with the boards you made, it was very hard to single out the brightest stars of the bunch, because really, they all were very good, and we can tell you have done your homework! A huge thanks to each and every one of you ladies who pitched in her time to create such stunning boards! 🙂
