Hello friends! Today I am going to show you all how I styled my “ballgown” for a Yuletide Ball last year (see this post), for Church. When Brigid first gifted me this dress, I was a little taken-aback by the color. Now, I adore bold prints and colors in their place, but to see an entire dress made up of such a bold, bright green took my breath away a little, and I couldn’t help but ask: “Am I really going to wear this?”
I have a philosophy. A fashion philosophy to be exact, which goes like this: “Wear what you like (within reason), and wear it with your head held high!” I do this all the time with my outfits, and this is what helps me to bedeck myself in a bold, brightly printed outfit without a flinch of insecurity. The way I like to look at fashion is that the clothing we have is ours to create with, so create something you love. Now, I know that many of you are thinking: “But I’m just SO afraid of what other people might think!” Well, I believe it is the confidence you have in yourself and your decisions that will help others to accept, and even admire, what you say, think, and wear. Like Harry Winston once said: “People will stare. Make it worth their while” 😀
So what does all that have to do with this dress? Well, I knew deep down that this frock was perfect for me in every way. The only green that I like is Kelly Green. Fit-and-flare are my favorite dresses to wear. Combine the two, and bingo! You’ve got a Charlotte! –Boyer, not cake. 😉
When I was getting ready for the Yuletide ball, and slipped on this dress, I kept looking at myself in the mirror and mentally reminding myself to “hold your head up high! You look different, but you look fabulous.” Sometimes it’s little things like wearing a dress you love, but are afraid of what people might think, that helps to build character for bigger decisions. Have confidence in what you wear. It’s totally worth it.

Let’s talk about my outfit now! Green and purple has to be one of the more daring color combinations one can put together, don’t you agree? Personally, it brings to mind those tacky Halloween decorations you find at craft stores. Ick. But! I pulled it off! How? Well, by combining cream accents of color, and pulling in my purple shoes as an additional accent that highlighted the colors in my scarf, I was able to pair kelly green & orchid purple in the same outfit!
I have to give a nod to Brigid for how I layered my statement necklace over my scarf to hold it in place. I saw her wearing that combination one day and thought “Oh! How clever!”, and decided to implement it into this outfit. Although it does shift around quite a bit, it makes for an interesting effect, and allows me to wear my two favorite accessories in one, so Win-Win if you ask me!
Well, I best be off! Thanks for reading, and be sure to share if you think others might find encouragement or inspiration from my post!
