It seems like an age and an age since I’ve been on here. Funny what a week of no internet can do! We’ve been having such lovely weather recently. Well, I should rephrase that. We’ve been having nice alternations of burning, smothering days, stormy, cool, gloomy periods, and the nicest days of all: those coming just after a storm. Those are the best! The skies are clear, the ground is ever so slightly damp, and there are just enough clouds in the sky to create intermittent shade throughout the day as the sun warms the earth.
My favorite part about summer, if you can’t tell by the title, is going barefoot. Charlotte was rather peeved that I didn’t put on shoes for this shoot, but we’re keeping it real here, folks! This is what my ensemble for puttering around the house in the summertime generally looks like: a T-shirt & skirt, or possibly a dress in lieu of both of those, and bare feet unless we go on a trip into town. Nothing fancy unless I feel like it.
I have to tell you the story behind the skirt I’m wearing here. The lovely Emily of Emily’s Vintage Visions, was hosting a Birthday Surprise giveaway about a month ago, and to my utter astonishment and delight, I won! She sent me the most delightful package of goodies (I’ll have to take some pictures to show you all sometime!), and among the beautiful vintage sewing notions, gloves, and velvet hat, was a pattern for a wrap skirt as well as just enough fabric to make it with! I was absolutely stoked! So I set to work as soon as possible to make the skirt in time for Charlotte’s Birthday outing, and this lovely item of clothing is what resulted. The fabric is a faux eyelet, and was a bit on the sheer side, so I underlined it with some plain white cotton I had on hand. I love how simple and practical the design of the skirt is. Oh, and it has pockets too. 🙂
This week has been so strange. We finally have a week with no singing performances, and so I was planning on using the time for some business planning (more on that, hopefully, in a future post), and blog sewing (yes, the construction tutorial for the zipper-free half circle skirt is coming soon!), but so far I have only been able to accomplish the latter. Perhaps today I’ll have time for the business side of things… Anyways, I wanted to tell you all how excited I am for what lies ahead, both in our blog, and in my sewing! Ever since I started reading sewing blogs brimming with tutorials and creativity, it’s always been my dream to someday share my love of sewing in the same way. Now at last I’m finally at the beginning (baby) steps to living my dream of teaching others how to sew, sharing my hap-hazard pattern drafting attempts; and sharing something else that will, Lord willing, be coming soon and has absolutely nothing to do with helping others to sew. And no, that something is neither personal or singing related. I will say that it’s still sewing related… have a guess if you dare.
P.S. The survey is now closed, by the way. Thank you all so much for your responses!
