Hi all! Brigid and I had so much fun creating this little film for you all (and I had too much fun editing it ;). The dress that I featured is a new favorite that I constructed from Mrs. Chancey’s impeccable 1958 Party Dress Pattern. Oh my, oh my I seriously can’t get enough of this pattern! Believe me, I’ve already made 3 dresses (including this one) and have one ready to be serged & constructed. I think if I were motivated enough I could whip one up in a day 🙂 There are no set-in sleeves, complex details, it takes little fabric; and there is SO much room for customization! I think it’s safe to say that this pattern is a sure-fire staple for me 🙂
Onto the details:
PATTERN // c/o Sense & Sensibility 1958 Party Dress Pattern
FABRIC // Vintage (birthday present)
NOTIONS // From a garage sale box full of vintage sewing notions. Probably a total of ~25¢
What’s your favorite sewing pattern that you just can’t get enough of?
I love this dress Charlotte! I’ve been eagerly awaiting to see the full thing after you posted a sneak preview on Instagram! I haven’t had much time for sewing yet, but I’ve made a few summer skirts that I’m excited to wear!
Very nice job on the video Brigid and Charlotte! 🙂

I love it!!! Fun video, Charlotte and Brigid! My favorite part is when Charlotte is posing–and taking photographs of herself–at the same time!! 😀
Eep! Your dress is just adorable, Charlotte! It looks perfect for summertime with the lightweight flower print & ric-rac. You have inspired me to pull out my Sense & Sensibility 1958 Party Dress Pattern, as it has been in my stash since it first came out, just haven’t had the time to sew it. It kinda makes me sad that my life has gotten so busy lately, that I have like no time to sew anymore, as I miss it dearly, and I have several projects planned out. 🙂

What an awesome dress! I loved the video…it really made my day, Charlotte and Brigid!
So darling! I need to break down and buy this pattern!
I just made a blouse (posted about it) that is perfect for the summer! I made it from a 50’s pattern so that was neat!
SUCH a cute video!
Fondly,
Cassie
I really like the versions of this dress that you girls have made! I own the pattern but when I attempted to make it, the bodice portion was all wrong. Maybe I’ll try again sometime soon!
Hi Emily,
Well, we did as the pattern suggested and constructed a toile before creating the actual dress. That allowed us to make any alterations to the pattern so that it would fit just perfectly. The nice thing about this process is that you only have to do it once really, and then your set and every dress will be just about perfect as far as fit goes.
I hope this will help you. Happy sewing!

That video is so cute! And I love you girls’ vintage style. All your dresses are so sweet and pretty 🙂

Ah, what a fun video! Lovely dress (I just so love this style) and the music, too – reminded me again how much I loved Scott Joplin’s ragtime music as a child. 🙂 I think I’m overusing the word “love” in the previous sentence, but I cannot think of another way to put it.
Did you grow up listening to Andrews Sisters? I’m asking because my own memory made me think of how certain things are so deeply ingrained in us we cannot help but keep coming back to them.
I think it’s clear you did have a lot of fun editing. 😀
