Hi everybody!
I better give you all a heads up that today’s Hope Chest post marks the second to last… yes! The very last…! *sniff* Hem hem! I do, however, plan to lengthen the process of saying goodbye to this series through a welcomed interruption. With the many complements and one sincere request I received on my hair this past C.O.S., I have decided to make a little tutorial video on pin curls, and put it up next tuesday instead of my usual Hope Chest post. Sound like a plan ladies? I hope so!
Well now. Down to business. With the many handy 16th birthday hope chest gifts, I also received a few little decor things that speak to me on a more personal level. I must let you all in on a little secret of mine β I have a great keenness for the the feathered creatures in this world of ours. I have always loved birds, ever since I can remember. And for the same length of time I have dreamed of flying just like them. So when a theme for my birthday presents was asked after, I promptly said, “Oh any thing with birds on it, and hints of green, please.” And that is just what I got!
1. Is a little package of green, tea candles, in the shape of birds, I received at my 16th birthday party
2. A little vase from the Marjolein Bastin nature collection, gifted by Mom
3. A giant coffee mug with beautiful prints on front and back, I received at my 16th birthday party
4. a simple little vase I found at GoodWill
Aren’t they just so precious? This might sound sentimental, but I don’t know if I could ever light them β their beauty would surely melt away. π
5. This charming vintage piece of silver, made by Oneida, was found at an estate sale
6. The lovely cobalt blue pottery wear plate was given to me at my 16th B-day party
It looks like our dear friends new my weakness for birds pretty well. I couldn’t have found a sweeter serving platter!
Who here doesn’t love nesting bowls? Could I ask for better hand painted vessels than these? Nope. I don’t believe I could! These were also given to me from some very good friends of ours for my 16th birthday. I was well supplied that day. I wish you could have seen the table full of bags and tissue β I couldn’t believe my eyes!
I have yet to look up this pottery company…
What adorable items! I think with the candles you should light one and just let it melt just a little each time there is a very special event in your life. Kind of a fun way to count your blessings. Of course, I expect that you’ll have more than 6 blessings, but it seems, to me anyway, a special way to count the first 6.
Awe, Jill, I love your idea. It will be so sweet to celebrate the simple things in life in that way.
Brilliant my friend!
Love,
Jessica
Nesting bowls! Perfect for storage.
My two Polish bowls are also sort of nesting bowls. I should take some proper photos of them, they deserve it. I will proudly proclaim them better than yours, but that’s because I LOVE blue and white, more than any other colour combination, and they are a fabulous traditional blue pattern on cream…
That silver piece & bird platter are breathtakingly beautiful, especially together – they seem to echo each other’s shape and look very Art Nouveau!
Oh ho ho! So now I have some competition eh? Ha ha! I love the blue and white chinaware anyhow. Actually if I could have it my way, I would have all of my chinaware be the lovely blue and white kind!
Always a pleasure to read your sweet comments, Hana. π
Love,
Jessica
Always a pleasure to comment! I often get a bit carried away…
And I don’t think I could compete with that bird platter and silver cup. I just could not help mentioning the blue and white, because I’ve actually just made a blue and white tableware score, I’m going to pick it up on Monday, so obviously sharing, so obviously a blue and white post ought to happen… π
These things are all so lovely!! I think that my favorite of these beautiful pieces are the two vases. And as for the candles–if they were mine I would use them simply for decoration and never light them–unless I had at least one more set stowed away, just in case I regretted burning them, ha ha! They really are the prettiest candles I’ve seen.
And actually, I do have one question regarding hope chests: are there particular items that are considered required for a young lady’s hope chest—anything that is a ‘given’, and shouldn’t be lacking? Or does everything really just depend on what she is able to find/make or receive?
I love the nesting bowls! π They are adorable. π
I didn’t ask for any decor items for my hope chest, and I honesty don’t know how I want to decorate my home when I am married! π
I don’t think much about decor . . . but I guess I want everything to be light and fresh looking. Not much to go on, I know. π
God bless!
