I guess I’m just a girl for bear-inspired outfits, but I honestly wasn’t thinking anything about that animal when I conceived this ensemble. When I saw the photos after the shoot, I realized how much my outfit harkened back to my childhood days; specifically my playtime with my favorite stuffed animal: Paddington Bear.
I don’t exactly remember my Dad giving him to me (yes, I was that young!) but I do remember my sisters saying that he came from London, that he was the cutest little bear I had ever seen, and I couldn’t get enough of his royal-blue toggle coat and funny red hat. It wasn’t until a few years later that I actually became familiar with the books and media about this funny little toy, but I didn’t in anyway want to get deep into the propaganda like I had with Barbie or Disney: I wanted my Paddington to be my very own little Paddington, simple, cute, odd and perfection in my little mind. I loved that whimsical little toy to pieces for many years, or at least it seemed so. Anytime that I hear the name Paddington mentioned, or my favorite toy was brought up in our girls’ walks down memory lane, I always smile and remember fondly my play days with him.
I must admit that my original inspiration for this outfit came from Alexandra of Into the Woods, and her fabulous incorporation of hats and fascinators in her darling outfits. I also wanted to pull out my favorite dress from eShakti again, and add some pops of red through my cloche, belt and purse. The trench was sort of a last-minute addition, as it was moderately chilly out, and I was so thrilled that the weather has finally warmed up enough to wear such lightweight, (dare I say) extravagant outerwear, which I always seem to get giddy over.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend, and restful Lord’s Day tomorrow! I think I’ll be spending my Saturday resting up from a cold that mysteriously came up out of nowhere, baking cheesecake tarts, and maybe sneak in a few Dick-van-dyke episodes…
