Can you believe it? This post marks the very last of kitchen related Hope Chest items! I am only so glad that Mom came up with the idea of my doing this blog series with you all, even more so that I took her advice – I have learned a great deal from your welcomed thoughts and ideas, as well as past experience from older young women who have stopped by to comment from time to time. My heart goes out to you all, and I give you my heartiest of thanks for all of your participation in this series!
Now as I sit here thinking of what to type out for this post, my thoughts keep wandering back to one of our girls’ favorite lines from “Little Bear” when Father Bear asks the silly question, “Has anyone seen my glasses?” For those of you who, like us, grew up with that sweet TV show, ought to remember that Father Bear was wearing the glasses right on top of his head when he made the hilarious inquiry (oh sweet childhood, where have you gone?). But at one point I too was asking myself when looking over my selection of Hope Chest things, “Where are my glasses?”.
You see ladies, I had nearly forgotten in all my excitement of buying vintage egg beaters, Pfaltzgraff plate wear, and tea tins, I nearly forgot the most important table item! My glasses! Or if you prefer, glass wear. It is kind of odd to me that such a simple cup is one of the most useful little contrivances man has ever made. With out the every day cup or glass, we would still be slurping up our beverages in a very unseemly manner. This thought is odd, yes. But it is the little things that help make this world go round, not to mention the biggest of all things, God. God was delighted that we enjoy everything in life, even down to sipping a nice, ice-cold glass of water from a little cup that he encouraged us to invent. God, the author of all things is even the author of a little cup. 🙂
Details are always needed here on this blog of ours, (its the little things…) so I had best tell you where I found these charming little vessels. We were walking through the kitchen of one of the two estate sale houses we’ve perused through, when Mom and I spotted a couple stacks of boxes filled with nothing but old glass wear. Treasure, and the opportunity to procure some glasses for my Hope Chest! “Hah! I found my glasses!” For, after looking over a few of the boxes, I found 12 pieces of the darling little orange juice cups, as well as 12 of the grape leaf patterned ones as seen just above.
Oh dear! Now I am going to have the adventure of sorting through the rest of my Chest to see what other things are going to be put up next! Hmm. Not the most pleasing of jobs to do…
