Good day, lovely readers! I am so especially thrilled to share this creation of mine with you all today! It is most probably my most favorite frock in my F/W wardrobe, and also the best fitting… second to a number that I hope to share and review for you all soon, so stay tuned 😉
The pattern for my dress was actually a collaboration of two other patterns and a little sewing know-how. The bodice section came from the Vintage Vogue reprint 8786, while the sleeves came from the vintage pattern of Vogue 5545. The skirt was just made out of a huge rectangle of the fabric 🙂 This was actually only my second time working with several different patterns to create one article of clothing. I did it before by collaborating the above two vogue patterns, and adding on Simplicity 2154 as the skirt. I hope to share that dress soon, but for a discreet preview click here.
This dress brought upon my first experience in matching plaids. Thank goodness for the basic pieces that it is made up of! I had a little trouble matching up the lines, but overall I don’t think I did a very bad job, especially considering the shiftiness fabric 😉 I chose the material when I was browsing the vast selection fabric.com‘s quilting cottons. I’m a complete sucker for chambray, and when this specimen scrolled up my browser, I new it had to be mine! It was $6 a yard, and about 56″ in width, which really made up for the price, as I was on a rather tight budget, and wanted a full skirt, if you catch my meaning 😉 Brigid and Mom warned me of the plaid print, and told me that I would have to get extra in order to do the dress justice. So after a little thinking, I finally decided it was worth it. Oh, how glad I am that I did 🙂
