Happy Monday to you all! I am so excited to share with you some finds that I purchased at a recent auction, and then an estate sale.
Yes! I got a set of vintage luggage! Three whole pieces for only $5.00! This was at an estate sale we went to this past Saturday. We had to wait out in the cold for a while, and when we finally were allowed to go inside, I headed straight to the bedrooms. In the first bedroom I found some hankies (you can see those below), and when I headed to the next bedroom, I looked up into the closet, and lo and behold there was a train case sitting beside two BIG boxes. Upon closer examination, I realized that those boxes held matching luggage to the train case! And all three pieces were for sale for only $5.00!!! My Mom was surprised (and pleased) that I didn’t freak out with joy. Yes, I get excited over a good deal… and generally call too much attention to myself. 🙂
This particular luggage set I guess to be from the mid 60’s. It was made by the Baltimore Luggage Co. under the name Lady Baltimore. I have seen a few other sets on Ebay selling for over $100! But those are probably in perfect condition. Mine has a few scratches, especially the “Overnight” (the medium sized one) which “had” a banged in piece about 1/4″ by 1/2″. But, I have been able to repair it! Yay! Would you all like for me to do a post on how I cleaned out my luggage, and repaired the spot?
And here is my other purchase from the estate sale. A whole BOX-FULL of hankies and aprons. Mom and I counted, and I now have 9 beautiful vintage aprons to add to my previously non-existent collection. ;P
Aren’t those hankies just gorgeous with their tatted edges?
These two were too cute to not share with you. I just wish I had the rest of the days of the week so I could have a complete collection.
And finally, a purchase that I made at a recent auction: 4 sets of glass snack-ware from the 60’s! I have three of the vintage (as in grapevine, not clothing. Yes, it’s confusing, I know!) pattern (seen above and below), and 1 of the seashell pattern (my favorite). I think I paid less than $5.00 for all of these, and I even got a glass baking dish and pie pan (not shown) to boot!
Each set has 4 plates and cups. I almost want to have a tea party so I can have an excuse to use them. 🙂
P.S. I think, as far as the luggage goes, I am missing the “Wardrobe” piece, which has hangers, and the “Weekender” piece, which is the same size, only shallower. If any of you happen to find either of these at estate sales for a reasonable price, do let me know! I just might be interested.
P.P.S I wonder if there are any hatboxes to the luggage set…
P.P.P.S I just found out that I might also be lacking two slightly larger “Pullman’s” (I have the Jr. Pullman) as well as a Model’s case, though I’m not sure if those were included in the collection that my luggage came in. Fun!
