How do I, after 5 years of the Boyer Family Singers’ blog life (to the very day), and about 1 year of me blogging; start off this post? I suppose that a good hearty “Thank You” and abundant applause to you our followers would be a nice beginning: so here’s to it, all! *applause*
I thought that since BFS has been around so long (half a decade!), and grown SO much, we should give proper tribute with a walk down memory lane: from the bitter-sweet ignorance of a new blogger, on up to the “magazine” you see today.
Ready? Let’s go!
2008 was the year in which Mom began this blog. She posted about once a month regarding the happenings in our daily lives, to keep up with our friends back in our home of the West Coast, after moving to Ohio where we happily reside today. That was the real, true purpose for Boyer Family Singers at the time: a little family blog about the exciting adventures of our lives in the new, strange world of the East. The posts were never perfect, and glitches did appear quite often in the layout. But it was just the beginning. Be prepared for a shock when you browse our old posts! All of us sisters were so young!
2009 Came the 1st blog anniversary, and pretty much stayed the same as the previous year far as post content goes. Our family took a dream trip to visit the landmarks of this country’s birth (Williamsburg, Monticello, and Mount Vernon), as well as visiting our first ever Vision Forum conference celebrating John Calvin’s 500th birthday. That was rather special for us, as we made our first regency costumes to wear around various events, sparking our girls’ interest in making historical clothing (do you see the product today?) We girls also performed in our first talent contest that summer.
2012 brought the year in which Brigid and I really started getting involved in the blog, joining in fashion events, coming up with photo-shoots like with a “vintage” phone attachment to Mom’s smart phone; and later on that summer, we sisters singing for our local fireworks show! Other big steps took place, as we hosted our first Give-Away, and Sister Flair!
2013 is the year we are in today. This year all three of us girls started to grow hugely in blogging, improving our photos, layout, and content. It was about this time that Mom really gave up the blog to us girls to take over. I started getting into photography and web design, which lead to me being a very big part of the “behind the scenes” work in editing the photos, creating graphics, etc. All three of we girls were improving in our styles as we grew older, which lead to more inspiring style posts. SO MANY things have happened this year, it’s hard to document them all, so I’ll just lay a few more before you: our following increased from 70 to 97 via GFC, Brigid had her big Birthday Dance (parts 1, 2, 3, and 4), I got my first DSLR camera, the start of many blog series such as The Flower Parlor, Lately, and Finding Your Style. But wait, we’re still in this year, and have so much more room to grow! The BFS you see today only started about a year ago, so when you think about it, we’ve improved SO MUCH, and we are so, so, so excited to see where the Lord leads us with this blog in ministering to you ladies!
Besides looking back, here are a few things to look forward to: Advertising at the beginning of next year! Save your pennies, bloggers and small businesses! Definitely improvements in photography, and maybe some tips on that hobby and blogging. More fashion posts, and few series lingering in the near future… stay tuned! Blogging has become so much apart of us now, we couldn’t imagine going back! God has brought us here for a reason, and we are incredibly eager to see what He has in store for us next!
On top of a timeline, I also am debuting BFS’ new look! How do you like it? I’ve spent many joys and tears over this bad-boy of a design, and I think my work has paid off 🙂 A few of the new features include…
