Apologies for the lack of posts yesterday! Our internet was down, but thankfully it’s up this morning, so you get to see the post that was intended for yesterday.
After some inspiration from my Mom, and a conversation with a dear friend of ours, I have decided to start up a new blog series. It’s titled: “Finding Your Style: A Journey of No-More-Confusion With Your Wardrobe”.
So, why am I starting this up? Well, I have discovered that I am not the only girl who is struggling, or has struggled, with finding my own personal style. That may be a complete shocker to you that I have a hard time with my wardrobe, but I do! And you, the girl who doesn’t know exactly what she likes, or thinks she does, but has a wardrobe full of hodge-podge pieces of clothing; you are not alone! This series is to help both you and I discover what our style is, so that not only can we be more efficient and frugal with our time and resources, but we can also be more of a blessing to others, because we won’t constantly be worrying about what we’ll wear or how we look. And we also will be more pleasing to the eye, and thus displaying God’s glory, because we will be using the laws of art and good taste, which He has given us through His beautiful creation, and applying them to ourselves and our wardrobe.
So, you all might be wondering, what’s my story? Well, after years of having the same sort of summer wardrobe style, with the bright colors and all, I suddenly realized this past spring, that I didn’t feel comfortable in my clothes. I felt awkward, odd, almost depressed. I would look at my wardrobe every morning, and think: “What can I wear? I’ve already worn this outfit a billion times! Purple is definitely a NO! etc. etc.” So after some tears and a bit of stress, and some help from my Mom and sisters, I started to pull together a list of styles I liked. I started up a Pinterest board (which some of you might have seen already), to organize my inspiration and thoughts on what I like to wear. Which leads me off of my story and into our next subject:
As I have already said, I used, and am using, a Pinterest board to organize my wardrobe inspiration, but you all can use different methods. If you’re more the academic type of person, you can just make a plain ol’ list of what you do and don’t like as you go through this blog series. Or if you’re more into scrapbooking, or collages, you could make a scrapbook of your journey, and what you find out as you go along. Use your imagination to figure out what works best for you, but don’t wait till the very end of the series to organize your thoughts! When I was first pinning clothing that I liked to my Pinterest board, I would just pin something instantly that appealed to me at first glance, and I wouldn’t take a second look at it till later in the day, or the next day, when I would decide if I really did like that item of clothing or not. I just went off of my first impression, and didn’t let myself think about it too long.
So, where is this journey going to take us? What are our destinations? Here’s a road map to guide you as we go along on this journey:
As you can see, we will first be stopping for a week at… oh, where we are now! The intro!
Alright, now we’ve got a head start on our journey, where shall we betake ourselves next? Ah yes, the city of “Shape, Color, and Resources”. After our two week stay in that lovely hub of creativity and learning, we shall move on to “Style Type” city for a prolonged visit of about a month (yes this journey may take a while but it will be well worth it, trust me). After our sojourn there, we will travel on to… hmmm… Ah, yes! The college of “Personal Style”, where we will study for a week to learn what our personal style is. And then, just a few steps away from that lovely institution, is the garden of “Applying What You’ve Learned”, at which comforting place we shall abide for a week. And finally, after all is said and done, we shall come to the magnificent castle of “Success”, where we will have a grand soiree to celebrate and share what we have learned!
Now, I must apologize ahead of time if we get lost along the way, for, as you know, I am traveling this road for the first time too, making me the not quite-so-ideal guide to have, but that’s all there is.
Can you all trust me?
And if you want to share the love, here are some fun buttons to share:
Meet me at the city of “Shape, Color, and Resources”, next week for our next lesson in Finding Your Personal Style.
