Happy belated Independence Day everyone!
As I type, these words enter my patriotism filled head, and I begin to hum the wonderful tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic…
“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword,
His truth is marching on!”
What a glorious song!
For this Independence Day, my sisters and I had been asked to perform vocally at our town’s 4th of July Fireworks Show. We had spent a few weeks getting our list of songs ready, and during that time, my wonderful mother used her extra hours in making this style of dress in the above and below pictures, for the girls and I to perform in. Isn’t this one lovely?
To our great shock and dismay, the coordinator of the celebration called us up on the morning of the big day to tell us that the show was canceled due to too much rain. Canceled? Yes, canceled. We all knew that it really would be useless to get up on the town stage to perform for the crowd who wouldn’t be there. And who would want to come to a soggy, not to mention smokey fireworks show! Certainly not us!
Now if there is one last thing that I can appreciate about this dress, it would definitely be the ties at the shoulders! Why? Only because they hide away the unmentionable straps with the greatest of ease! How? Why they get tied right in, and thus it makes for an easy wear too!
How was your Independence Day? Did any of you get rained out?
God bless you all!
