60’s and 70’s shift/shirtwaist dresses have always resided in my vintage heart as a favorite, and that’s what I saw in this dress whilst shoving through the racks at the thrift store. When we got home, I immediately set to work trimming off the hem, taking in the sides, and removing a few of the darts. Alas! My dreams for this dress were a little deflated by my headlong character and scissors. I had trimmed off just a biiiiiit to much of the hem to my family’s comfort :{ Mom suggested that I add a ruffle, so after a bit of thought (ruffles just aren’t really my thing anymore…) I went with the idea and used some of the leftover fabric that I had trimmed off. This type of ruffle on this dress worked splendidly for me!
I’m in love with this dress!! I’d never wear it without a belt (what can I say? I’d rather not rewear my 5th year wardrobe) and it goes with so many of my accessories!
The cons of the dress include a rather snug bust area aaaaaannnndddd…. that’s it! 😉 I guess that’s pretty good for a remake, huh?
P.S- That Giveaway that I mention a while ago we will hopefully have up soon 🙂 Thanks again to all our 80 followers!
P.P.S- I took these photos myself using a tripod, so please excuse any odd angles, etc. 😉 Anyone whose used this method before for these types of posts will know what I experienced lol!
Charlotte, your first photo is so much like the photos I used to look at in albums when I was a girl. Way back when…:) you know!
Good job on the coloring. Mom
Looks great!
The hem is my favorite part!

This is adorable, Charlotte! What you did on the hem adds personality to the dress – which I love! 🙂
