Hello dear readers,
At last you all might have the chance to hear from my little corner of our family’s posts! Mom keeps reminding me that I am continually coming up with random comments on bizarre things like: how certain functions of our anatomy work for our benefits, as well as our discomforts; how many, many fascinating things I see in nature that make me pause in my furious pace and contemplate “why?”, and then sooner or later come up with an answer or theory. There are plenty of curiosities to share with you all in this new weekly series of mine, so I hope that I have stirred your thoughtful appetites, and perhaps encourage some conversation, via our blog.
Not long ago I was sitting comfortably in our library, studying up on human anatomy (the subject was the human eye) when I came across this curious piece of information: a striking resemblance between God’s relationship with us, how He declares in his word that he would “keep us (protect us) like the apple of His eye”, and the manner in which we ourselves protect the apples of our eyes. Wow!
Some of you might be able to grasp what I mean, but I know that for most of you I need to elaborate some.
|Apple = pupil.|
What am I referring to when I say, “the apple of our eye”? Well for starters, the Hebrew word for “eye” is the same word for “apple”, and even more specifically the word “apple” translates directly to the word “pupil”. So whenever you hear people say, “You are the apple of my eye.” you are not only hearing an ancient statement of love that was taken from our LORD’S Word, you are hearing a statement declaring that somebody loves or, sees you as the pupil of his or her eye. Though not many people know that that is what they’re actually saying!
Aside from these facts, we also know exactly what it is like to be suddenly hit by something in the face, and we know the very first reaction that comes from this sudden impact is the lightning-quick reflex of our closing eye lids to protect our eyes from any harm.
|Lightning-quick closing of the eye.|
This is the fastest reflex in the body, and it is the last form of muscle movement we retain just before death! Wow!!
Now stop for a moment with me, and lets put this all into perspective; first we now understand what it means when God says that He will protect us as the apple of His eye. Secondly we understand the immediate response our eyes have to sudden and swift moving objects coming directly towards our face. Putting these two key pieces of information together we find a deeper sense in this particular statement of love from our dear Heavenly Father, which is: I am going to protect you in the same way that I protect my eye. (Remember the split-second reaction of the eyelid closing over the pupil) Nothing can happen to you without My Immediate Protection. Trust in My protection, just as you trust that your eyes will be kept from sudden harm!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”
May this bless you in the gaining of your knowledge of our gracious heavenly Father!!
