The Boyer Sisters

Real-life Advise + Inspiration for the Creative Gal.

Monday in the Garden

06/25/2012

The weather proved pleasantly warm today (in contrast to the heat we’ve suffered through last week), so my family and I went out to fix up our yard a bit, taking advantage of the fine day before us. The time of labor manifested fruitfully, and I thought I would take a few photos of the excursion to share with you all,

Our thriving squash plants.
It seems like just yesterday I looked out and they were but
wee sprouts! Maybe I just haven’t been very attentive…

Horizontal banana peppers!

I took the responsibility of mulching the area around our pine trees with some “Homemade” mulch that my Dad chopped up in our chipper. It’s so nice that we can do such things as this at home without having to spend any money!

And yes, I used our handy-dandy Radio Flyer wagon to
transport the mulch from the woods to the pine trees! 😉
Thanks to Dad and my sisters; we now
have some beautifully trim & prim hedges!

My Mom and I harvested Foxglove and Sweet Pea seeds, along with taking down such plants, and my Dad and sisters trimmed the hedges lining our house.

Plentiful Sweet Pea seeds

A Zinnia sprout flourishing in the summer sunshine…
Stunning Echinacea
God has blessed us with such a beautiful, plentiful, rich garden to tend! But in amongst all the beauty comes ugliness too; for beauty cannot exist without the ugly to reveal its presence in our lives. As we live in this world full of sin and suffering, we must see the distasteful before we can realize the beauty in life. God gave beauty, but also allowed sin into the world to glorify Himself, by sending his only son to die for our sins and defeat death forever more!
Our poor strawberry plants which we so proudly displayed just a month or so ago, have now given up on themselves and have curled their once fat leaves in defeat! 🙁 But then there are always the raspberry and blueberry patches we know of to replenish our stock of berries. 🙂 In fact, we actually picked about 14 lbs. of blueberries last Saturday at one of our favorite U-pick blueberry patches! 😀 In only 15-20 minutes!!! Many hands make light work, as the saying goes…
TTFN,
